Dissecting the Glass Ceiling
Filipino women have steadily progressed upthe management hierarchy in recent years and have substantially advanced intomiddle management positions. Fifty eight percent of legislators, seniorofficials and managers in the country are women. Does this mean thatstereotyping and discrimination is not a problem for Filipino women in theworkplace? Unfortunately NOT. Intoday’s Philippine labor force, males continue to outnumber females 2:1 even ifthe population rates are almost the same for both genders. Income of females onthe average are only 60% of that of males. There are very few women CEOs and only 20% of Lower Houserepresentatives are women. With this facts, how can we then ensure a level playing field for men and women? Is there truth to the myth that graduates of Ateneo, UP and La Salle are preferred over other universities?
